Candy Corn, Peanut & Caramel Mix

Yesterday the hubby and I went to the horse races … not just any old race, but The Breeders’ Cup.  We like to think of it as the Kentucky Derby of the west 😉  We’ve never been to the Kentucky Derby … maybe someday!  It was very exciting and entertaining … horses, hats, celebrities, food, placing wagers and unfortunately loosing 😦

The loosing part brings me to this winner …

I’m calling it the Pay Day Party Mix!  This creation came about thanks to Beth at Hungry Happenings … it was because of her Sweet and Salty Halloween Bark!  You see, I was telling the hubby and Son #3 that I wanted to make the bark … they decided that we should make this mix today and save the bark for another time.  I gave in … again 😉

Now … I have to admit that the guys created a pretty good combo … it does taste like a PayDay candy bar!  I don’t know why … I’ve never eaten candy corn and peanuts together.  It makes sense … the whole salty sweet thing and all.

CANDY CORN, PEANUT & CARAMEL MIX

  • 2 cups candy corn (11 ounce bag)
  • 2-1/2 cups salted roasted peanuts
  • 3/4 cup Caramel Bits

Place all ingredients in bowl and mix.  Store in air tight container.

This is a winning mouthful … 1 candy corn, 2 peanuts and 1 caramel bit!

  3. Glad you tried the combo and liked it. It is amazing how much the candy corn and peanuts tastes like a Pay Day candy bar. Whenever I have left over candy corn, I add peanuts to it.

    I used to live in Louisville and did attend the Kentucky Derby once. It was pretty fun betting on a horse and cheering it on during the race. I actually did win a bit. I think after making all my bets, I came out about $2 ahead. Definitely not a bit win, but it was cool to get to go to the winners window to collect my money!

    • I was amazed that it really tastes like a PayDay! Here’s my method of choosing race horses … if the horse’s name has sugar, sweet, chocolate, etc. in it … I’ll probably bet on it … I usually spend a whopping $10 for the day!

  4. I love sweet and salty combos and the idea of the little caramel bits too is delicious. In Hong Kong, we also have the Happy Valley horse races every Wednesday night. It is fun to go and watch the horses and all of the men who are big time gamblers with all of their cards out on the table. I on the other hand am like you and make the smallest bet and it is just fun watching them. I bet the horse named candy corn is for sure to make the win! Take care, BAM
