Last week my husband was on vacation from work. We didn’t go anywhere … except shopping … Target, WinCo, Costco, etc. … and bought waaaay toooo much candy. He has been bugging me to open and eat the conversation hearts. I kept telling him “no” and that I was going to use them for my blog. Now that the bag has been opened … I guess they are going to be gone shortly. I don’t know why he likes those hard little candies … and now that he has seen my soft and chewy pops … he wants those too! I do have to hide candy from him … I think he knows what I do 🙂

My conversation hearts are … guess what … marshmallows! I’m sure you probably guessed … knowing my obsession and all. Believe me … if I find new marshmallows … I feel compelled to buy them.

Before we start … let me say that you will see imperfections in my pops. Just remember that these are made with marshmallows … which are not perfect … they may have little lumps or bumps. Don’t worry about perfection … it’s only candy … have fun!

This is what you will need …

Jumbo HeartMallows (about 60 per bag)
Lollipop sticks
Red Edible Marker
Candy melts – assorted colors (3-4 pounds to do 60 pops)

I wanted light-colored candy melts … but I only had bright pink candy. So I started with melted white chocolate (candy melts) and added pink until I got the shade I wanted. I ended up using 4 parts white to 1 part pink …

First dip the tip of your stick in melted candy. This will help “glue” the marshmallow to the stick …

Then insert it into the marshmallow and set aside to let the candy harden up …

Now cover the entire marshmallow with melted chocolate and tap off all excess candy …

Lay the pop on waxed paper or place in a fancy dancy homemade pop holder … then put in the fridge for a few minutes to harden up …

Use the marker to write messages on room temperature pops. I used some of the sayings on the real conversation hearts … or be creative …

Note: Be careful not to touch the writing, it may smudge.

I found them at WinCo … Walmart and Target are usually good sources too.

I made these today for my son’s class. I bought Wilton edible markers and they would not write on the chocolate. What kind of marker did you use?

I use AmeriColor Gourmet Writers. Try a cake decorating store or Amazon. Sometimes while using the markers on chocolate a film will develope on the marker tip. I usually use a paper towel to clean it. Have you used the Wilton ones on other food?
