Supplies, Ingredients, Tools, etc. and a Giveaway !!!

Do you have a favorite place to find supplies for baking, or crafting?

Where do you buy your ingredients?

Do you buy new equipment/tools frequently or use what you have on hand?

I am not talking about our staple ingredients … we can usually find flour, sugar, etc. … it’s the other stuff …

The only place that I know to find the edible markers that I like … is at local cake decorating store or order online.

So, sometimes I am guilty of hoarding … or at least buying too much … and taking advantage of coupons and sales.

I have picked up a few “necessary” supplies that may be useful … and I am giving them away!!!  Here they are …

Anyway, if I can’t find what I want … I rely on talking with friends … because most of my friends are bakers/cooks/crafters … we can all get helpful info by networking.

Here are some of my reliable sources – Cake decorating stores, Williams-Sonoma, SurLaTable, Michaels, Jo-ann, Wal-Mart, Target, dollar stores, Home Goods, Marshalls, Ross, WinCo Foods, Trader Joes and grocery stores.

What are your sources?  Do you have any secret sources that you would like to share?

To enter the giveaway just leave a comment below … if you have a source to share, that would be great!  The contest ends Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 11:59pm PST.  The winner will be selected via Random.org and notified via email.  Giveaway is open to U.S. residents only and only one entry per person.

  1. I’m fairly new at baking and crafting. I find what I need at Wegmans, Michaels, even Walmart. A lot of places now carry Wilton supplies. Wegmans Supermarket (all over the northeast) has a great selection of specialized ingredients for baking. I’m trying out some gluten-free recipes and Wegmans had bourbon vanilla, brown rice flour, almond paste, etc. Pricey stuff, but the finished products are worth it!

I buy my supplies from a local baking supply store Candyland Crafts or online if I can’t find it anywhere locally.

  4. I didn’t realize how spoiled we were in Southern CA. We do have a Trader Joe’s in Nashville now. Yeah!!!! I just bought the Cocoa Pearls in your photo there last week. I have heard of London, KY. Reading the earlier posts I am going to have to mapquest it and see how far away it is from me. I am always up for a road trip to find good products. Also, you never know what you will find at World Market.

  5. I live in a small town, and the only craft store within 20 miles is JoAnn’s so I get a lot of my supplies there. There’s also a confectionary supply store in town, and I can get some things there; but their hours are very similar to my work hours (in another town) 😉 I do get some items online, but the thing I need the most is chocolate which can get pricy when having to pay shipping. Anyway, I can’t find the AmeriColor pens anywhere but online so maybe I can win them! Thanks for the chance 🙂

  6. Believe it or not, I just ordered 2 silicone candy/cake molds from the Avon catalog! I’m going to use them to make petit fours for a Christmas Tea. They also have edible markers and a decorating kit. I didn’t buy them, but found it interesting that they sell them!

  7. My only local sources are Hobby Lobby, Michael’s and WalMart. I stock up when I go to cake shows, but have to order lots of supplies and pay shipping. 😦

  8. ok, seriously ask my husband this question and he can rattle off ALL my favorite places (from looking at wellsfargo.com!) I think they must send him a note that says, “Mr Shamp, you wife just bought more cupcake shit”…….any hoo I am fond of Michaels and Joanns especially using the coupons. Here in Minneapolis we have an awesome cake supply store called Lynns cake and candy. I get my edible markers from amazon. I LOVE fancy flours and CONFECTIONARY HOUSE is always one of my go to online shops. FUN!

  9. Oh my good glaciers! How cute is that stuff!? Thank you so much for giving us a little looksie into your sources, sometimes I don’t always think about every place available to me! I use my Google a lot to find things online, but since I get a ton of ants in my pants and can’t wait for shipping, a lot of times I’ll head over to Hobby Lobby or a Mom & Pop crafts store the second creativity hits me. 🙂

  11. I would love to win! We have no TJ’s. Michael’s, Hobby Lobby and anything else cool is an hour drive away. In the summer it isn’t so bad, but now that we are getting into the winter months, the trips will be fewer. Our local store has very few items to select from (they didn’t even have any Basil in the seasonings! And I wasn’t even looking for FRESH!!). So therefore, I am your very deserving neice, especially since I just got my Kitchenaid Mixer, I am doing a lot more baking!
