Peppermint Wreaths

Do you own a donut pan?

I have had a debate going on with myself for at least five years now … I want a donut pan, I don’t need a donut pan … where will I put it, I don’t have room for one more pan … but I could “bake” donuts, I don’t need to eat donuts … I have seen so many delicious recipes, I don’t need to eat donuts … I’m sure I need this pan … last week, I finally bought a donut pan!

I didn’t bake donuts, but I used the pan!  Look what I made …

Peppermint Candy Wreaths !

Can you see the layer of dark chocolate, white chocolate mixed with peppermint marshmallows and topped off with crushed candy canes!  Who wouldn’t love to eat one of these?

As usual … this is a quick and easy creation.  You will need … a donut pan, white chocolate (or candy melts), dark chocolate (or candy melts), mini peppermint marshmallows, candy canes and candy for bows … I recommend red licorice laces (not the candy in the photo, it didn’t work for me) …

002

Now for the easy peasy directions …

  • Make licorice bows and set aside
  • Crush candy canes

003

  • Put a layer of melted dark chocolate in each donut cavity
  • Mix melted white chocolate with marshmallows and spoon on top of dark chocolate layer
  • Sprinkle with crushed candy canes and chill a few minutes

004

  • Remove wreaths from pan … if they don’t come out easily, they probably need a little more chill time
  • Attach a candy bow with a dot of melted white chocolate

006

Supplies needed to make 6 wreaths …

  • 4 ounces (weight) dark chocolate
  • 4 ounces (weight) white chocolate
  • 1 cup peppermint mini marshmallows
  • 3 candy canes
  • 9 feet red (licorice type) lace candy

  1. Now, that is My kind of donut :} They are adorable. Time for me to dust off my donut pan.
I just may make these using a brownie or cake mix, frost with favorite icing and decorating with Christmas sprinkles and see if I can find me one of those tiny bow candy molds and make tiny bows to go on the donut wreaths.
Thanks for the recipe and the inspiration

  2. You are so funny! What a great little post! Adorable wreaths! I wish we had Target stores in Hong Kong….(whenever I go home for a visit this store is one of my first stops) I also do not have a donut pan but then I also would need to make donuts for my teenagers… However, now after seeing this post I might just have to get one more little pan… and do just that…and make your wreaths. Have a super weekend. BAM

      • donut pies are mini pies using your donut pan
Spray your donut pan with nonstick cooking spray (lightly).
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Roll out pie crusts (at room temperature).
Using a circle disk; cookie cutter, lid off container or whatever you have that is at least 4 inches in diameter you cut out circles that will fit inside each donut hole compartment. Using the bottom of the decorators tip,for the center ring, cut out center so that the crust will fit in the donut compartment.
Add pie filling, top with crust, brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar and bake Bake for 10-12 minutes

        It’s just like making mini pies only you’re using your donut pan…hence the name – donut pies :}

      • A person sometimes just gotta think outside the box.
Can use the donut pan to make little frozen fruit molds and add to your holiday punch; or just plain donut ice cubes.
Use the pan and make some salt dough ornaments; let dry and decorate into wreaths or tree ornaments.
Make seed donuts for the birds.
Turn the pan upside down, run some paint over the bottom donut rings and use as a stamp for making wrapping paper and decorate the paper however. Stamp with green to make green wreaths and using end (handle) of craft paint brush, dot on some red berries using red paint.
        Just a few ideas what a person can do by just using a donut pan. :}
